Soil Grading Services in Southern Oregon

Precision rough and finish grading for foundations, driveways, drainage, and finished yards. Owner-operated and laser-accurate.

What Soil Grading Actually Does for Your Property

Grading is the process of shaping the ground to a planned slope and elevation. Done right, it controls water, protects structures, and creates a stable base for everything you build on top.

We handle:

  • Rough grading — Bulk earthwork to bring a site close to design grade
  • Finish grading — The final tight tolerances for landscaping, sod, or asphalt
  • Drainage correction — Re-sloping properties to push water away from structures
  • Driveway & pad grading — Compacted, properly crowned, ready for gravel or concrete

When Grading Is the Right Solution

  • New home builds — Foundation pad prep and lot grading
  • Driveway projects — Slope, crown, and base prep for gravel or paving
  • Water pooling fixes — Reshape low spots that hold water
  • Pre-landscape work — Smooth, level base for sod, gardens, or hardscapes
  • Commercial pads — Building footprints, parking lots, equipment pads

Our Soil Grading Process

  1. Site Assessment — We measure existing elevations and identify drainage targets.
  2. Plan the Slope — Typically 2% minimum away from structures, more for problem areas.
  3. Strip & Stockpile — Topsoil set aside for reuse where appropriate.
  4. Rough Grade — Skid steer or dozer brings the site close to spec.
  5. Laser Finish Grade — Final tolerances dialed in with our laser grading system.
  6. Compact — Plate or roller compaction where the surface will be loaded.

Tools We Use for Soil Grading

  • Skid Steer — Versatile, precise grading in residential and tight commercial spaces
  • Dozer (when needed) — Bulk earthwork on larger lots
  • Laser Grading System — Hits design grade within fractions of an inch
  • Compactor — Plate or roller compaction for pad and driveway base
  • Box Blade / Grading Attachment — Clean, consistent finish across driveways and yards

Why Grading Should Be a Specialty, Not an Afterthought

  • Laser-grade accuracy on every job — not eyeball math
  • Owner-operator on site means tighter tolerances and faster decisions
  • Equipment owned = no rental clock running on your job
  • We grade for drainage first — because everything else depends on it

Soil Grading FAQs

Rough grading gets the site close to design grade — usually within a few inches. Finish grading dials it in to fractions of an inch and is what you need before sod, asphalt, or concrete.

We use a laser grading system and design to a minimum 2% slope away from structures. For problem areas, we'll go steeper or add drainage features.

In most cases, yes. If the pooling is from a low spot or reverse slope toward the house, regrading is often the simplest fix. Sometimes drainage (French drain, swale) is needed in addition.

Whenever possible. We strip and stockpile topsoil, do the rough work, then respread it for the finish layer. It saves money and gives you a better growing surface.

A small residential drainage regrade can be a day. A full lot prep for new construction is usually 2 to 5 days depending on size and condition.
